LA BESTIA wins "Best student film" at the Annie Awards
A dream come true! Three GOBELINS animation students won the highest distinction in the world of animation: an Annie Award, the equivalent of an Oscar!
An original and committed script
After BEST FRIEND won the award in 2019 and the nomination of A DEVIL IN THE POCKET in 2020, it is now the turn of LA BESTIA to win, awarded for the originality of its script inspired by a current topic: the freight train, nicknamed "La Bestia", which crosses Mexico illegally in an attempt to reach the American border.
A multicultural adventure
LA BESTIA was the fruit of a multicultural team. The three directors, Marlijn VAN NUENEN (Netherlands), Ram TAMEZ (Mexico) and Alfredo Gerard KUTTIKATT (India), are from different cultures, and used 10 different nationalities for the casting.
"I am grateful to GOBELINS for giving us this opportunity, to Guillermo del Toro for supporting me with a scholarship, to Asifa Hollywood ... and of course to the whole team for its richness of heart and spirit" says Ram Tamez.
Nathalie Berriat, Director General of GOBELINS, confirms: "This award is a real consecration! This is our second ANNIE AWARDS after Best Friend. It rewards all our efforts in favor of equal opportunity over the past few years! It's proof that when several nationalities join forces to combine their talents, something great comes out of it. It is also a testimony to the strength of imagination in the service of creation, to the perseverance and the will of our young students who have been able to carry out their project in the confined conditions that we know."
"We are happy to support you for 2 years. This is a fantastic reward for the entire film team and the entire school", has tweeted Pierre Antoine Capton, President of MEDIAWAN, one of the leading independent European audiovisual content studios, as soon as the awards were announced.
The adventure continues
The film has just won the "Best International Animation Film" award at the CINELEBU festival, and is thus eligible for the OSCARS 2022.
