Understand what makes for successful Character Animation !
France is today the third largest animation producer in the world and the European leader. French artists and studios create and develop full-length feature films, TV series, commercials, short art-house films, special effects, video games and other emerging forms of audiovisual expression. Graphic and animation styles, narrative modes and characters are quite varied, but all reveal a certain French touch that is recognised and appreciated around the world. Indeed, many young French talents are sought after to work in studios around the world. Such creativity in animation has been the specialty of GOBELINS, l’école de l’image for 40 years.
Building on the strength of its long experience and its worldwide reputation, GOBELINS is organising for the 15th time an International Summer School to enable students and professionals from around the world to gain a better understanding of what makes for successful character animation. For the 2nd year, GOBELINS ranked №1 Animation School worldwide.

Programme
The programme is mainly designed for professionals and advanced students in animation and focuses on three major points :
- Experience: GOBELINS’ finest applied research in character animation, presented by GOBELINS professors during morning master classes.
- Professionalism: lectures and interventions from experts from the industry sharing their practical experience all along the programme.
- Practice: tailor made exercises given to the students by the lecturers in the afternoon workshops and reinforced by individual coaching.
The master classes will be given in English.
At the end of the course, participants will receive an official certificate from GOBELINS.
Following the morning master classes, workshops will be held each afternoon. Over the two weeks, participants will be given one exercise to complete with the guidance of our professional tutors: Olivier Dusart, Vincent Garcia and Samy Fecih.
These workshops will take place in classrooms equipped with 2D and 3D equipment, including light boxes.
Those classrooms and the whole equipment will remain available (without teacher supervision) from Monday to Friday from 8:30AM to 10AM and from 5PM to 8PM.
Workshops will include “Acting for Animators” activities conducted by Robert W.Bennett. Those performance activities will help animators practice the gesture and movements that they will apply on their animations.

« Guidance from professionals offering their life experience and knowledge is completely priceless and 2 weeks at GOBELINS has exceeded four years of my college, that’s how truly priceless it is! Very unique and immersive and special and enlightening. »
Eileen HALPIN
« GOBELINS is an extremely professional school that knows about animation and most importantly: how to teach it. It is amazing the fact that they open their doors to animators all around the world, and give us their knowledge. All the invited animators, teachers and organisation team were very kind and helpful. »
Mariana Lira
« Having never taken an animation course, I was suddenly flooded with information, both new or where I only understood the basis of it. I felt like I was taking everything in like a sponge and would only feel encouraged whenever work had to be reviewed. It was a great dynamic where we would attend the conferences to then look back at our work and have us conclude by ourselves what the errors were; aside from the incredible help from the animators. »
