ONLINE COURSE VISUAL STORYTELLING
_____________________________________________________
Building on 40 years of experience teaching animated storytelling, GOBELINS is organizing for the second time an International Summer School to enable students and professionals from around the world to better understand the creative process, structure, and presentation of visual storytelling. Following the success of last year’s programme, we have decided to build a Visual Storytelling “Level 2” Summer School this year for people with a more advanced project.
The aim of this level 2 is to help people to further develop their project, whether it is for film, television, animation, video games, VR, comics or children’s books, focusing on the art of blending story and image. Also to learn how to write a professional presentation for its treatment and craft a dynamic, visual presentation to pitch it.

Programme
The programme is designed for anyone interested in improving their storytelling ability, further advance an original project and learning to communicate their story to others through a written and oral presentation -also known as a “ treatment ” and a “pitch.”
Professionals renowned in various fields of storytelling will give lectures and conduct workshops that guide participants through topics including:
● The structure of story
● How to improve your story
● Choosing intuition to break rules into mind blowing visual stories
● Visual research and “world building”
● Understand what a producer will expect to hear from you
● Crafting a treatment to present to professionals
● Crafting a visual presentation
● Improve your public Speaking and your practice of the pitch.
The list of speakers is not final, more professionals will join the team! This page will be updated regularly with their profiles. At the end of the course, participants will receive an official certificate from GOBELINS.
Participants will be asked to arrive with a project describing the story they have already worked on. A storyline, a plot, a short description of the characters and the setting are also required, as well as their intentions and the form they want this story to take: animated film, illustration, series, comics, etc. Over the two weeks, with the guidance of our professional tutors, participants will go deeper into their ideas, story structure and development. They will assemble a written and a visual presentation and will pitch the project to a professional jury and receive feedback.
Lectures and master classes will be held in the morning. The purpose of these classes will be to give a solid tool kit to the participants to help advance their projects. Workshops to develop participants' individual projects will be held each afternoon and they will be supervised by tutors.
Classrooms will be equipped with computers and the software needed for participants to search for, or create, images to illustrate their stories.
A commented bibliography will be given to participants before the course to provide as indication to further their knowledge.
