Visual Storytelling

Online course, 3 to 14 May 2021

Target audience

This course is designed for advanced-level students and young professionals from cinema, television, animation, comic book, video games and illustration to help them better understand the creative process, the structure and the presentation of visual storytelling and to develop a personal project. Participants should have a good command of English to follow the main lectures. The coaching sessions for individual projects are available in English, Spanish, and French.


Participants interested in the promotion and networking strategy of their personal project may also follow the additional online course of “How to take your Storytelling project to the next level” (coming soon).

Tuition fees

1,500 € Taxes included.
This includes 40 hours of lectures and conferences and around 7.5 hours of individual coaching. Longer or shorter sessions can be defined with your coach depending on the project.

Final admission to the Visual Storytelling online course will be confirmed only after the school receives full payment of the fees. All payments must be completed before the course starts. 

In the event of a cancellation until 26 April 2021, all participation fees will be reimbursed. In the event of a later cancellation, GOBELINS, l’école de l’image will retain 50% of fees paid.  In the event of cancellation after 3 May 2021, GOBELINS reserves the right to retain the full payment.

Learn about storytelling techniques and take your artistic project to a professional level!

The objective of this course is to help you develop your personal project for cinema, television, animation, comic book, video games or illustration, while focusing on the art of combining story and image.

The programme has been designed for anyone wishing to improve their writing capacity, to make their original project grow, and to learn how to tell their own stories thanks to a written an oral presentation - also called "portfolio" and "pitch".

The programme will combine lectures and conferences with professionals and individual coaching sessions. This is a unique opportunity to gain new skills, make a professional presentation for your portfolio or to plan career within the story department of a studio, for example!

To allow more flexibility, all conferences and workshops will be recorded and accessible to participants up to one week after the end of the course. 



Applicants should complete the application form (.PDF) and return it to with a short CV (1 page) and 5 lines presenting the story project they would like to work on.

Applications may be submitted all year long and up to one week before the start of classes. Participants will be notified about their admission by email within 2 weeks.

There will be no formal evaluation, marks or grades during the course. GOBELINS will not return any submitted material.
