Visual storytelling

The objective of this course is to help you develop your personal project for cinema, television, animation, comic book, video games or illustration, while focusing on the art of combining story and image. You will learn how to tell your own stories thanks to a written an oral presentation - also called "portfolio" and "pitch".

This course is designed for advanced-level students and young professionals from cinema, television, animation, comic book, video games and illustration to help them better understand the creative process, the structure and the presentation of visual storytelling and to develop a personal project. Participants should have a good command of English to follow the main lectures. The coaching sessions for individual projects are available in English, Spanish, and French.

DAILY SCHEDULE 

To allow more flexibility, all conferences and workshops will be recorded and accessible to participants up to one week after the end of the course. 

Tuition fees

1,500 € Taxes included.
This includes 40 hours of lectures and conferences and around 7.5 hours of individual coaching. Longer or shorter sessions can be defined with your coach depending on the project.

Admission process

The selection committee will examine the files for admission.The selection process is opened until no place remain available.
After admissibility, the participant will receive an admission letter and will have to pay the tuition fees using our online platform in order to confirm the admission. GOBELINS will not return any submitted material.
All payments should be completed before the course starts. In case of a cancellation after the programme starts, GOBELINS reserves the right to retain full payment.

John COVEN

John Coven has been working as a visual storyteller for over thirty years. As a storyboard artist in Hollywood he’s worked with directors such as Steven Spielberg,Tim Burton, Jon Favreau, and Ben Stiller. His credits include The Lion King, Jurassic World, Venom, Logan, Captain America: Civil War, and the original X-Men. His children’s picture books have been published in France by Gallimard and his comics have appeared in Spirou and Fluide Glacial. His short films have won prizes in festivals around the world and been broadcast throughout North America on PBS and the CBC. He’s taught filmmaking, storyboarding, and entertainment design at schools including the Art Center College of Design, the Otis College of Art and Design, the Animation Workshop, and Les Gobelins. Having received his diploma in illustration from the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, France, John currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
