Prepare your Portfolio or Demo reel

Are you looking to take the competitive entrance exams for animation schools? Would you like to apply to GOBELINS’ Bachelor or Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking?

Building a portfolio or a demo reel is a critical step when it comes to showcasing your skills, creativity, and potential to enter an animation school at Bachelor or at Master’s level.

During these programmes, GOBELINS tutors and experts will guide you week-by-week to help you customize a strong portfolio or reel and make the difference.

Duration

November 27th 2023 to February 26th 2024

  • Understand the specific requirements and guidelines in terms of format, sizes, and themes for the portfolio
  • Improve every aspect of your graphic file
  • Select the work that will highlight your skills in various techniques, choose the right balance between quality and quantity
  • Learn how to present and edit a clear and easy-to-read portfolio
  • An initial one-to-one interview at the beginning of the course to review your artistic file

The program will include each week: 

  • A workshop on drawing (spatial drawings, live drawings, Character Design, Backgrounds…) and methodology
  • A one-to-one individual coaching session with a Gobelins’ tutor to help you develop a structured online portfolio (7 hours in total)
  • These constructive feedback sessions will improve the quality of your artworks before submitting your portfolio and ensure it is in line with the requirements. The sessions are also a way to practice your pitching skills in view of the oral interview
  • It will be an opportunity to take a critical look and discuss your study project

TARGET Audience and pre-requisite for applicants:

  • Students with a background in drawing, a taste for animation, cinema, TV, illustration, comic books, video games… wishing to improve their portfolio
  • Prep-year or Bachelor's degree candidates for animation schools
  • Minimum age: 16 years old
  • The program is 100% in English; therefore, applicants should have a good command of the language in order to follow the course
  • A good internet connexion

"Prepare your Portfolio" planning

  • Understand the specific requirements and guidelines for a convincing demo reel
  • Start from your sketches and demo reel draft
  • Structure a reel that takes the jury on your creative journey

The program will include:

  • An initial interview with a tutor at the beginning of the program to review the existing candidate's artistic file
  • A weekly workshop to approach every step to create a demo reel with methodology
  • A one-to-one individual coaching session each week (7 hours in total) with a tutor to help you develop your personal project. These sessions will also serve as a Pitch training for the oral interview

TARGET Audience and pre-requisite for applicants:

  • Candidates to an animation school at Master's level, wishing to improve their demo reel: Students with a background in animation, cinema, TV, illustration, comic books, video games at Bachelor Level or self-taught candidates with 3 years’ work experience in the field
  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • The program is 100% in English; therefore, applicants should have a good command of the language in order to follow the course
  • A good internet connexion

"Prepare your Demo reel" planning

Personal access to Blackboard virtual learning platform will allow you to join the community and participate in the workshops and individual coaching classes during the chosen course. 
The workshops will be recorded to enable you to watch them in replay up to one month after the end of the course.  

Individual coaching classes will take place by appointment with a tutor online.

Classes will be held twice a week – every Monday & Thursday from November 27th. 

Some classes or activities may begin earlier or finish later. The school reserves the right to make any last-minute changes to the programme whenever it needs to be amended or improved. 

Should the program be cancelled due to unexcepted events GOBELINS will refund the tuition fees in full. 
In the event of a cancellation by the participant: 

  • Before November 15 2023, all participation fees will be reimbursed 
  • After November 15 2023, GOBELINS will retain 50% of paid fees 
  • After November 21st 2023, the school reserves the right to retain the full payment 

All attendees will receive an official certificate from GOBELINS at the end of the program.  

Attending the course does not guarantee success at the exam

As seats in the programme are limited, the selection committee will examine the files for admission on a first come first served basis while places remain available.

After notification of admission, you will be able to proceed with the payment using our online platform and confirm your enrolment.
