THABA YE wins the BAFTA Student Film Award for Animation

THABA YE,  directed in 2022 by students from the Master of Arts in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking,  has won the BAFTA Student Film Award for Animation 2023.

Congratulations to Daria BATUEVA , Preetam DHAR, Merel HAMERS,  Hannah JUDD, Mogau KEKANA, Leroy LE ROUX for winning this prestigious award!

A poetic journey

Inspired by South African legends, "Thaba Ye" ("This Mountain") tells the story of a courageous young girl who undertakes a long journey to a mysterious mountain in a remote region of South Africa, in order to save the life of her ailing brother.

Devotion and acceptance of loss are the main themes of this short film about love, fear and acceptance.

The pitch

Under the shadow of a mysterious Mountain in a remote part of South Africa, where legends of the local Sepedi people say that those who go there never  come back, Thato has to face her fears in order to save her sick brother.
