GOBELINS Paris takes part in the Forum Création Africa

From 6 to 8 October 2023, Création Africa, the 1st Forum of Cultural and Creative Industries (ICC) dedicated to the production and circulation of emerging African artistic creation, will be held at the Gaîté Lyrique and the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Cnam).

By focusing on the fast-growing creative sectors of TV series, animated films, immersive universes (video games, metavers and XR) and publishing (comics), Création Africa, as a platform for creating new opportunities and new narratives, conjures up new imaginations that are more representative of our constantly changing societies.

Création Africa is a long-term project, taking place alternately in France and on the African continent, with the aim of becoming a key destination for professionals and creators from both continents.

Création Africa

This first edition in Paris, organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Agence Française de Développement, Business France, the Banque Publique d'investissement (Bpifrance) and the Institut français, will welcome more than two hundred professionals from the African continent.

Artist-creators, producers, broadcasters and captains of industry are invited to share the best of contemporary African creation, to discuss production issues and to envisage new prospects for collaboration and exchanges with French and European entrepreneurs.

One day for professionals, two days for the general public

The first day is entirely devoted to professionals, with a market development dimension (workshops, meetings, project presentation sessions). It is based on networking between African and French players thanks to a series of partner stands and the organisation of business meetings in a reserved area of the Gaîté Lyrique via a dedicated digital platform produced by Business France.

These meetings between selected African decision-makers and French companies are designed to meet each other's needs and encourage exchanges, partnerships and business flows.

Saturday and Sunday, open to the general public, are dedicated to showcasing contemporary African creativity.

Thanks to an editorial and artistic programme put together by the curatorial team led by Michael Swierczynski (ex-director of New Images, XR expert), Karine Lagrange (ex-New Images), Joëlle Epée Mandengue (Bilili BD Festival), Sidick Bakayoko (Paradise Games), Séraphine Angoula (Dakar Séries) and GOBELINS Paris, (re) discover the latest trends in African creation.

Former students of the Master of Arts at GOBELINS Paris will be presenting two graduation projects THABA YE (2022) directed by Leroy LE ROUX, Merel HAMERS, Hannah JUDD, Mogau KEKANA, Preetam DHAR and Daria BATUEVA and THE SOLOISTS (2021) directed by Mehrnaz ABDOLLAHINIA, Feben ELIAS WOLDEHAWARIAT, Razahk ISSAKA, Celeste JAMNECK and Yi LIU.

GOBELINS supports emerging talent in African animation

Committed to the emergence of new talent in animation, GOBELINS and NETFLIX have been partners for 5 years on the Equal Opportunities programme.

Promoting diversity is at the heart of the actions of the 2 partners, the aim of this partnership being to pave the way for a new generation of African animation artists, to help them develop their skills and broaden their creative horizons.

Netflix and GOBELINS are determined to support these students in their quest for excellence and to help them become the future leaders of the animation industry in Africa and beyond.
